Triton looking for oldest retail ATM still in operation

October 6, 2004

LONG BEACH, Miss. - To celebrate 10 years of having ATMs in retail locations, Triton is holding a contest to find the oldest retail unit still in operation. Machines must be in use and in possession of original owners.

To mark this milestone in the growth of the transactions industry, Triton is asking ATM distributors to submit as many entries as they would like. The distributors and machine owners must provide the age, ownership and location of the ATMs. Entries will be accepted until 10 p.m., CST, on Nov. 5.

The winning distributor and the ATM owner will each receive a new Triton 9100 monochrome screen ATM, Triton's current best seller.

"We hope to have many entries to mark this significant milestone," said Triton President Brian Kett. "The introduction of the retail ATM brought a host of new players to the world of transactions and gave small retailers important new ways to increase direct customer revenues."

According to a news release, a convenience store in Diamondhead, Miss., installed the
first bill-dispensing ATM designed specifically for use in retail locations, a Triton model 9500, in 1994. ATMs are now a common fixture at most convenience stores, supermarkets and shopping malls, and a multitude of other locations.
