Tranax adds software to make ATMs Triple DES compliant

February 2, 2003

FREMONT, Calif. -- Tranax Technologies says it has released its fully compliant Triple DES encrypted Mini-Bank 1500 ATM.

According to a news release, Mini-Bank 1500s were previously shipped as Triple DES capable with encrypting PIN pads (EPP). However, with the addition of the necessary software, Mini-Bank 1500s are now fully compliant.

According to the release, all Mini-Bank 1500 ATMs are now loaded with new versions of the application and EPP (Encrypted Pin Pad) software, which is capable of running Triple DES with a 32-digit master key, automatic unique key binding and MACing (encrypting with a message authentication code). The new software also will work with DES and a 16-digit master key.

Automatic unique key binding simplifies and reduces the cost of loading the unique key, according to the release.

Core Data Resources has already implemented Triple DES and automatic unique key binding capabilities and is currently driving Tranax ATMs in both DES and Triple DES mode. Other processors are working to implement Triple DES and automatic unique key binding capabilities for Tranax ATMs as well.

For all Triple DES capable Mini-Bank 1500s currently in service, the new software can be installed without any hardware upgrades. Other Tranax ATMs such as the Mini-Bank 2100/2200 and Nano Cash are scheduled to be fully compliant and available by March 2003, according to the release.
