Study: Nigeria surpasses Ghana, UK in ATM use

August 3, 2016

Nigerian ATMs dispense three times as many notes as those in Ghana and 10 times as many as ATMs in the U.K., according to a new Computer Warehouse Group PLC study.

Despite a high level of demand, there are currently only 15,000 ATMs installed in Nigeria, according to the release.

“The number of people with ATM cards keeps increasing by the day, despite the shortfall in ATMs and Nigeria still ranks higher in ATM usage," said James Agada, Computer Warehouse Group CEO.

”Nigeria is more secure compared to places like the U.S. or U.K.," he said. "In Nigeria we have many measures being deployed to curb the problem of ATM-related fraud. We also have PIN shield, security cameras, mirrors, encryption technology, [and] anti-phishing devices fixed on the ATM."
