ATM explosions — most of them fails — are frequent newsmakers. But a spate of attacks along Spain's Costa del Sol stands out for its record of success.
EuroWeeklyNews has reported that Spain's national police are investigating more than a half-dozen ATM explosions that have been carried out in the last few weeks.
The article said that attackers force open the dispenser, insert flexible tubes, pump a volatile mixture of oxygen and acetylene into the machine and then set it off, breaking open the safe without damaging the money in it.
The method is similar to that used by an Italian gang eight years ago. That group was eventually tracked down and arrested.
