Spanish ATM network goes contactless with NCR technology

May 24, 2017

Euro Automatic Cash has partnered with NCR Corp. in an effort to transform its ATM network to be more reflective of the company's new image and corporate branding.

The network was established in 2014 as a joint venture by Banco Popular and other Spanish financial institutions, and today maintains a network of approximately 2,000 ATMs across the country, according to a press release.

To date, approximately 65 percent of the Euro Automatic Cash installed base has been modernized with new NCR systems featuring the Windows 7 operating system and contactless functionality.

Contactless technology dramatically reduces the risk of criminals skimming card data at an ATM, the release said. At the same time, it provides faster, more convenient service for consumers who can use contactless cards and mobile phones for ATM transactions.

"Euro Automatic Cash aims to provide a highly available service to direct clients, as well as customers of other financial institutions, offering them modern ATMs that deliver a compelling user experience," José Rincón, managing director of Euro Automatic Cash, said in the release. "We want our commitment to customer service to be reflected in the touch points that are the interface between our company and our customers."

The new ATM systems will allow Euro Automatic Cash to add future features and services — such as cash recycling, targeted advertising and personalized services — through its self-service terminals.

"This enables financial institutions to reflect their brand and support their brand promises," said NCR Spain General Director of Financial Services Carlos García Reig.
