CRDB Bank Plc., a major bank in Tanzania, has migrated to the CR2 BankWorld Platform at its subsidiary, CRDB Burundi, in a move that the FI hopes will augment self-service banking for customers across Burundi and enable the bank's further expansion into that market.
CRDB has deployed the BankWorld platform by self-service delivery company CR2 to accommodate growth in its Burundi operation. The FI is using CR2 modules that include the BankWorld ATM product suite and BankWorld card and POS services.
"Our target is to grow the bank into a financial giant in East and Central Africa," said CRDB managing director Dr. Charles Kimei. "The bank recently opened a branch in Burundi in an attempt to continue to foster a relationship with neighboring Tanzania."
The Burundian President Mr. Pierre Nkurunziza has welcomed CRDB, saying the country required more banks to help it become economically self-sufficient. A nation of 8 million people, Burundi has a banked population of just 6 percent.
According to Martin Dolan, CEO of CR2, the company's solutions have been in use for many years at CRDB Tanzania for services such as agency banking or remittance using the ATM and POS network.
"We are glad to extend our relationship with CRDB in Burundi," he said. "CR2's self-service range of solutions will enable CRDB to simultaneously service both the banked and unbanked populations with a full range of services."
