SBI inks India's largest-ever ATM order

November 1, 2016

NCR Corp. has announced that State Bank of India, the country's largest financial institution, has awarded NCR the single largest order of ATMs in India.

Under terms of the $50 million agreement, NCR will deploy 7,070 SelfServ 22e ATMs, and will also provide software solutions and services in support of SBI expansion goals.

"We congratulate NCR on securing this order and helping us expand our ATM network in India," said Mrutyunjay Mahapatra, deputy managing director and chief information officer at SBI. "This partnership continues to strengthen our ATM channel network of more than 57,000 ATMs, of which NCR has almost half the base."

According to the World Bank, up to 2 billion people worldwide are underbanked. In India alone, more than 233 million people have never been to a bank, and only 74,000 (12 percent) of the nation's 600,000 villages have access to a bank.

The SelfServ 22e was developed and made in India specifically for the Indian market. The machine is designed to handle high transaction volumes in a compact footprint that is easily deployed in rural locations.

The units use low-energy LED lighting and fixed-length receipts to minimize power consumption, reduce carbon footprint and paper waste, the release said.

In addition, self-healing technology is said to allow the SelfServ 22e to recover faster and reduce downtime from hours to minutes.
