Saudi ATMs reject new bank notes

Two weeks after Saudi Arabia introduced new bank notes, many of the nation's ATMs still won't accept them.

A report by the Saudi Gazette said the problem is twofold: Firstly, many ATM systems must be updated to recognize new security features in the bank notes; secondly, ATM cassettes must be recalibrated to the new dimensions of the bills.

The notes were unveiled to the public Dec. 14 and released into circulation Dec. 26. The report did not give a reason for the delay or indicate when the Saudia Arabian Monetary Agency thought the problem might be resolved.
