S Africa's FNB to install 1,250 NCR SelfServ 4 units

September 12, 2013

FNB, South Africa's oldest bank and one of its largest, is automating routine banking transactions with 1,250 SelfServ 4 units from NCR Corp. FNB has branded the ATM-like kiosks "Slimline ATMs," and will deploy them in retail sites and remote locations not served by conventional branches and ATMs.

The SelfServ 4 allows customers to quickly complete typical branch transactions such as account maintenance and financial product research and purchases. Rerouting these routine transactions from the teller window to self-service channels will allow tellers to spend more time helping customers with high-value product purchases and cross-sales.

"We developed this as a unique technology to address access to banking in a way that deepens functionality and brings full digital banking to our remote sites," said Aziz Cassim, head of self-service delivery at FNB. "In the process, we created a unique ATM designed specifically for emerging market and lower income needs. This slimline ATM also has great potential across all our market segments from personal to business and commercial due to its deep digital banking ability."

FNB worked with Bytes Managed Solutions, the exclusive distributor for NCR products and solutions in South Africa and selected neighboring countries.
