Royal Bank uses contest to promote mobile top-ups at ATMs

May 18, 2004

LONDON - Royal Bank of Scotland's customers who use the bank's ATMs over the next month to top-up mobile phones stand to win one of six prizes worth £150 (U.S. $267) of airtime.

The ATM mobile top-up service has been available for Orange, Vodafone, O2, T-Mobile and Virgin Mobile network users since April, according to a Finextra News report. Customers can use any of the bank's 1,359 ATMs to pay for air-time on their accounts.

The new incentive, which will run from May 17 to June 11, is designed to encourage wider usage of the service, which the bank says is already proving popular.

It follows a more generous promotion in late 2003 in which the bank randomly loaded six "golden tickets" worth £10,000 (U.S. $17,000) each into ATMs. (See related story Royal Bank of Scotland says 'thanks' to ATM users with prize money)
