An ATM in Tinsukia, India was targeted by an unlikely culprit: a rat. A rat entered the machine at an SBI branch and ate more than $13,500 in cash, according to a report by Times of India.
The rat entered the ATM through a wire opening and consumed the notes. The ATM had been out of order for days and when bank technicians were able to open it, they discovered a bad smell from the now deceased rat and the shredded notes.
"The ATM was out of order for a few days and when our technician opened the kiosk, we were shocked to find shredded notes and a dead rat," Chandran Sharma, branch manager, SBI, told the news outlet.
There were no signs of tampering and the bank plans to take preventative measures.
