Punjab National Bank recently announced it will deploy an e-surveillance system in an effort to prevent future theft attempts at its ATMs,according to Business Standard. The move comes after more than Rs 41 lakh cash was looted within a week by thieves breaking into its ATMs in Punjab.
The new security system will see sensors installed at all the bank's on- and off-site ATMs, the article reported.
In two recent incidents, burglars with covered faces broke open PNB ATMs with gas cutters and blocked the view of CCTV camers with spraypaint, according to the article.
PNB has more than 500 ATMs in Punjab.
