Provident Bank to expand ATMs at Shoppers Food

BALTIMORE, Md. -- Provident Bank will open 16 full-service in-store branches, 38 ATMs, and install three video kiosk banking units in Shoppers Food Warehouse supermarkets throughout the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.

Provident finalized its agreement with Richmond, Va.-based Richfood Holdings to operate the services, which will include stores in Northern Virginia and Maryland's Prince George's, Anne Arundel and Montgomery Counties. Shoppers Food is a subsidiary of Richfood Holdings

By the end of 1999, all 38 ATMs will be installed and the first seven in- store branches will be open -- in the two Shoppers Food Warehouse locations in Alexandria, as well as stores in Dale City, Fairfax and Falls Church, Virginia, and Clinton and Germantown, Maryland.

To be installed in three supermarkets in early 2001, the video kiosks will allow
customers to interact with a bank representative through face-to-face video. Shoppers Food Warehouse locations in Rockville, Maryland, and Chantilly and
Herndon, Virginia, are scheduled to receive video kiosk units.
