Pentagon Federal Credit Union has joined the Allpoint Network, giving PenFed members access to some 55,000 surcharge-free ATMs worldwide, according to a news release.

"[I]t is important that our members have convenient and surcharge-free access to their funds," said Kevyn Myers, executive vice president and chief operating officer at PenFed. "[T]he Allpoint Network partnership allows us to expand our aggregate network of free ATMs for PenFed Access America checking members to more than 56,000 worldwide."

Established in 1935 as the War Department Credit Union, PenFed is one of the largest credit unions in the country with nearly $18 billion in assets and membership of 1.3 million, the release said.

"By becoming an Allpoint Network member financial institution, in an instant PenFed grows its surcharge-free ATM footprint to more than double that of even America's largest bank," said Bill Knoll, managing director of the Allpoint Network.
