PCI security council draws fire

Digital Transactions: A senior analyst at Stamford, Conn.-based consulting firm Gartner Inc. has questioned the newly formed PCI Security Standards Council. Avivah Litan said that although the council was needed, each of the five brands that created the council - American Express Co., Visa International, MasterCard Worldwide, Discover Financial Services LLC, and Japan-based JCB International Credit Card Co. Ltd. - will have to enforce security standards differently. (Read also, Big five credit card companies form PCI security council.) 

But Seana Pitt, PCI Security Standards Council chairwoman and vice president of global merchant policy and data quality at American Express, said the common goal to enhance security will negate that issue.
