Paragon adds new online training for EMV

As the U.S. prepares for EMV migration at the ATM and at retail, Paragon Application Systems is developing a series of online EMV training courses. This week the company announced the availability of three new free online training classes.

"An Introduction to EMV, Part 1— History, Business Drivers, Benefits and Challenges"

The first in a series of in-depth presentations on a variety of topics related to EMV. This presentation includes the following topics:

  • review of magnetic stripe transactions and technology;
  • basics of chip card technology;
  • history of EMV and EMVCo;
  • overview of an EMV transaction;
  • EMV business drivers; and
  • EMV benefits and challenges.

"An Introduction to EMV, Part 2 — Concepts and Terminology"

This session describes the following basic concepts and terms and explains how they are commonly used within the context of EMV:

  • online;
  • offline;
  • authorization;
  • PIN verification;
  • authentication;
  • cardholder verification methods; and
  • fallback.

"An Introduction to EMV, Part 3– Decisions Acquirers Will Face"

In this presentation, Paragon focuses on subjects that are relevant to acquirers considering an EMV migration. Topics include:

  • pre-project analysis and roadmap definition;
  • chip card readers and interfaces;
  • options for POS terminals;
  • upgrade or replacement decisions;
  • terminal configuration;
  • impacts to online transaction processing software, offline, and batch processing systems; and
  • EMVCo and brand certifications.

Paragon also delivers in-depth on-site EMV training for project teams, technical teams, and project managers. The initial online training classes provide a foundation of EMV knowledge that we build on in on-site training.
