Digital security solutions provider Oberthur Technologies has developed the first debit card certified by MasterCard that meets the Durbin Amendment guidelines, according to a company news release. These guidelines require issuers to identify two unaffiliated debit networks for each debit or prepaid card they issue.
Oberthur's solution was specifically designed to support the combination of MasterCard debit and U.S. debit Maestro application identifiers, which are required to support debit cards issued in the United States.
The Cosmo RSA V5 M/Chip Multi-application was developed for OT's global platform-compliant and java-based operating systems and is capable of supporting dynamic data authentication.
The chip minimizes memory use, allowing optimal support for Durbin requirements, the company said. OT has integrated support for the solution into its proprietary common personalization system, a single, global personalization engine that has been deployed across the company's network of 40 personalization service centers.
