NEW YORK - Police are investigating a recent ATM theft attempt to determine whether the three men they apprehended were involved in some or all of the 20 ATM heists in the city since January.
According to a WABC report, police arrived just after two men had broken into a pizzeria and attempted to steal the ATM. Police nabbed the men as they fled down the street and arrested another man who was waiting in a nearby van; they are still looking for a fourth suspect.
None of the suspects were named in the WABC report.
According to police, the thieves in some of the earlier crimes had become proficient at cutting the ATMs off of their steel anchors, loading them into vans and taking them away.
