In South Africa, it's the battle of the banks as retail financial institution Capitec calls foul on a claim by First National Bank to the title of first bank in South Africa to introduce a mini ATM with biometric validation capability.
"Capitec was in fact the first bank in South Africa to introduce biometric verification technology, back in 2012," Charl Nel, head of communications at Capitec, said in a report by Independent Online.
Moreover, Nel claimed, Capitec is the only South African bank that can boast biometric records for its entire client base of more than 10 million people.
FNB has promised to respond to the claim by Capitec.
