New Jersey's 'ATM Bandits' nabbed

March 17, 2010

Three men accused of carrying out 15 burglaries in nine towns across northern New Jersey — burglaries in which they used acetylene torches and power tools to open up and empty ATMs — were arrested Friday, according to the New Jersey Star-Ledger.

The men, dubbed "The ATM Bandits" by law enforcement officials, are accused of cutting or burning their way into ATMs and stealing the cash inside from office buildings in Parsippany, Morris Township, Harding, East Hanover, Hanover, Morris Plains, Rockaway Township, Roseland and Bernards Township between last November and last week.

The 15 burglaries had netted the trio $97,000 in cash from ATMs and more than $25,000 in stolen property, according to law enforcement officials.
