Nearly half of Wells Fargo ATM transactions now receipt-free

September 17, 2013

Wells Fargo reports that every minute, 475 receipts are not printed at its ATMs. Since the $1.4 trillion-in-assets FI started offering paperless transactions in 2009, ATM users have taken a pass on a milestone 1 billion paper receipts, according to an announcement today.

Customers enrolled in Wells Fargo online banking have the option to go receipt-free or to have an e-receipt sent to their online banking inbox, a personal e-mail account or, since June, their mobile number. Currently 46 percent of customers are opting for one of the above.

The 1 billion receipts foregone have saved more than 300 million feet of receipt paper — enough to circle the earth more than twice, at approximately 63,000 miles.

"We're proud to support our customers' green choices by making it easier than ever to minimize waste," said Alicia Moore, head of Wells Fargo ATM banking. "We've heard from customers that they enjoy the conveniences we're making both at the ATM and inside the store. We want to thank our customers for joining with us in an effort to conserve resources."

Wells Fargo has been recognized by the EPA Center for Corporate Climate Leadership, the Carbon Disclosure Project and the U.S. Green Building Council for its efforts to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions and build sustainably, the announcement said.
