NCR to cut customer service jobs

January 21, 2002

DAYTON, Ohio -- NCR Corp. plans to cut 600 to 700 jobs worldwide in its customer service division as part of a reorganization, according to an Associated Press report. That represents about 5 per cent of its 14,000 customer services workers.

The Dayton-based company has 33,000 employees overall worldwide. The customer services division, based in Dayton, also has operations in Georgia, South Carolina, Nevada and 124 countries.

The customer service division provides a range of information technology services, including supporting and maintaining NCR software and hardware; designing, installing and maintaining computer networks; and maintaining computer equipment made by other companies.

The job cuts are part of a division reorganization that NCR says will streamline operations and implement consistent practices worldwide.

Affected employees will be notified May 18, according to the report.

NCR, which had $5.96 billion in sales last year, does not provide separate reports of revenues generated by its customer service division.
