NCR Corp. plans to set up a 500 crore rupee ($83.1 million) facility at Mahindra World City, south of Chennai, India, and will consolidate several existing manufacturing units into the new location within the next year, according to a report by Hindu Businessline.
Bringing together all manufacturing under one roof will provide operational efficiencies, said Jaivinder Gill, NCR regional vice-president for India and Southeast Asia, at a press conference. Also, the new location will be closer to vendors and other resources, he said
Businessline reported that the new location will produce at least 100,000 ATMs annually, as well as POS and automated self-checkout devices for the retail and hospitality industries.
Including staff at its R&D facility, NCR employs more than 3,000 people in India. The brand accounts for a 44 percent share of the country's current installed base, followed by Diebold at approximately 27 percent and Wincor Nixdorf at 23 percent, the publication said.
