NCR integrates APTRA with Solidcore tech

November 21, 2005

DAYTON, Ohio - NCR Corp. has introduced a new generation of security, IT control and regulatory compliance into its APTRA software suite, according to a news release. An extension to its holistic approach to ATM security, NCR is integrating APTRA with technology from Solidcore Systems Inc., a developer of IT control solutions.

"While the industry continues to focus on the slim threat of worms and viruses entering the ATM software environment, new threats, business risks and regulatory compliance issues are virtually ignored," said Bob Tramontano, vice president of engineering and product marketing for NCR's Financial Solutions Division. "There are required audit trails for software changes, other requirements related to Sarbanes-Oxley and imminent industry compliance measures that may not yet be on the radar screen for most ATM channel managers. … Until now, there have been ad-hoc security offers in the market that only address symptoms of the security problem."

Recent industry research indicates that in the past year, internal attacks on IT systems have grown and now outnumber external attacks. NCR's approach to ATM software security addresses those new trends so customers can be assured that no unauthorized code can execute on their ATMs and no unauthorized changes can be made.

The new offer will be available for use with APTRA applications and non-NCR applications.

"This brings an entirely new level of security to the banking industry at a time when the transition to Windows-based platforms is picking up speed," said Robert Sandie, executive vice president of Solidcore's Worldwide Operations. "Using NCR's ATM expertise, we have tailored a single approach for the ATM channel that addresses these potential technical and business risks."
