NCR in £4 million deal to supply retail ATMs in UK

September 8, 2003

LONDON - NCR Corporation (NYSE:NCR) says it will supply PayPoint, the UK's leading electronic bill payment network, with EasyPoint 53 ATMs along with ATM installation and maintenance services.

According to a news release, the deal is worth £4 million (about $6.3 million U.S.)

The ATM and service package is primarily aimed at PayPoint's current 10,500 retail agents, as well as other independent retailers and convenience retail chains.

"PayPoint's payment services already increase retailer footfall by an average of 300 customers per week," said Dominic Taylor, PayPoint's managing director, in the release. "Offering both existing and new PayPoint agents NCR's world-leading ATM hardware and services can only increase these benefits for the retailer."

According to the release, the EasyPoint 53 ATM is designed to reduce retailers' cash handling costs by allowing them to replenish the ATM with their own cash.

"Reduction in banking cash will be especially welcomed by PayPoint's existing retail agents that handle large sums of cash in providing payment services," said Simon Rubin, NCR's vice president for financial self-service solutions for Northern Europe.

PayPoint is the UK's leading branded national network for collecting payments "over the counter" at more than 10,000 PayPoint outlets located in newsagents, convenience stores, supermarkets and other locations across the UK.

More than £1.7 billion ($2.7 billion U.S.) worth of payments are collected by PayPoint each year on behalf of more than 300 client companies including BT, British Gas, every electricity provider and all five mobile phone networks. The PayPoint service is free of charge to the customer.
