BEIJING — NCR Corp. in 2008 won orders from China's top five commercial banks — orders that included plans for an additional 7,000 ATMs. The company also earned 75 percent more orders from China's small and mid-sized banks, of which more than 1,200 unit orders are for NCR's SelfServ ATMs.
According to a news release, NCR's SelfServ ATM family, which features "self-healing" capabilities, has gained extensive customer recognition in a short period of time.
"China is one of the most important strategic markets for NCR," said Patrick Chou, president of NCR North Asia. "We have been adhering to our long-term commitment to the China market and are constantly driving technology innovation to satisfy current and future needs of customers and consumers. "Our outstanding business growth in the China market last year has further strengthened NCR's leading position in the area. The market success of the new SelfServ ATM family has also underscored our efforts in realizing our company value: to help customers transact with their consumers in faster and more convenient ways, ultimately transforming their businesses."
In November 2008, the NCR SelfServ 25ATM won the 2008 China's Most Successful Designs Winner 25 Award for its innovative design and performance. The award program was jointly sponsored by Fortune China magazine and China Bridge International, one of China's leading design management consulting firms.
To date, a number of large commercial banks including the Bank of Communications, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, and Bank of China have implemented NCR SelfServ ATMs such as the NCR SelfServ 22 and NCR SelfServ 25 models.
