NCR exec says Bluetooth will impact ATM use

January 29, 2002

CLEARWATER, Fla. - Bluetooth technology could open a new world of functionality for ATM machines, as it enables delivery of a number of communications services through mobile phones to ATMs. That's the message Mel Walter, mobility program director for NCR Corp., delivered in an address to the ATMIA Conference.

Walter said Bluetooth provides the link between the mobile world and self-service, and that ATMs of the future will do more than simply provide cash. He said ATMs, and self-service kiosks, could serve those with a mobile lifestyle in a number of ways, including providing printouts of such items as tickets, maps or photos.

The ATMIA Conference continues through March 2.
