NCR Corp. to provide 1,200 cash-recycling ATMs for ING Belgium
October 18, 2009
NCR Corp. today announced a partnership with ING Belgium to equip ING's new-concept Proxi branches with the NCR SelfServ 34 ATM with a cash-recycling module.
According to a news release from NCR, the ING Belgium's Proxi branch concept is part of its retail bank strategy and features an open layout with a "fresh" design and no counters or security glass, facilitating interaction between customers and bank staff. The branch also features "self-bank" self-service and customer advice areas.
NCR says ING Belgium has ordered 1,200 of the ATMs for installation, making the deployment the most extensive installation of cash-recycling ATMs in Europe.
Quinten Fraai, general manager of direct channels for ING Belgium, says the ATMs' cash-recycling functionality will allow the bank to conduct cash transactions in a more secure, user-friendly manner:
"Our partnership with NCR has enabled us to roll out our strategy to shift cash transactions within Proxi branches to self-service areas. With its unique dual cash-recycle/dispense functionality, the NCR SelfServ 34 ATM is a perfect match for our requirements and ensures a very high level of security for cash operations, as well as the flexibility we need for future upgrades."
NCR says the cash-recycling module provides a bill sort and validation functionality that allows banks to redistribute cash to customers. The solution comprises two recycle/dispense modules for each ATM, with a capacity of approximately 16,000 notes. Currency deposited by customers is processed by a recognition module to determine its validity.
