NCR Corp. has broken ground for its new world headquarters in Atlanta. In a press release, the company said the campus will serve as an iconic landmark for the city as it "affirms NCR's commitment to ... creating a new tech hub on the East Coast."
It was 10 months ago that the company first announced plans for a new world headquarters complex occupying approximately 485,000 square feet in the city's Midtown area.
"NCR's decision to build a new global headquarters in the heart of Midtown signals the city of Atlanta's status as an economic and technological powerhouse," said Mayor Kasim Reed. "With a $300 million investment next to Georgia Tech, NCR has chosen to put down roots alongside one of the nation's leading centers of innovation, and in the urban core of Atlanta. Together, NCR, our tech community, and the city of Atlanta will continue to grow and thrive."

NCR has retained three firms — Duda Paine Architects, Gensler, and HKS Inc. — for design development, which will take place over the next few months.
Construction is slated to begin on Jan. 14, 2016, with completion expected by the end of February 2018.
According to the release, the project will be a top performer in energy, water and waste-stream efficiency, with a high level of LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certification.
"Our new world headquarters campus is truly a watershed moment for the future of NCR and the city of Atlanta," said NCR Chairman and CEO Bill Nuti. "We are partnering with the city of Atlanta, state of Georgia and the university system of Georgia to create an environment that will inspire passion, collaboration and innovation. It's going to be one of the most dynamic tech communities in the world."
