ATMs at China's Bank of Ningbo have gone live with NCR Mobile Cash Withdrawal, according to an NCR Corp. news release. The service, which is available on the bank's nationwide network of more than 600 ATMs in China, offers Bank of Ningbo customers a second cardless withdrawal option — one that does not require the customer to enter a transaction code, PIN or withdrawal amount at the ATM.
The new solution speeds up cardless cash withdrawal by using a 2D barcode. Customers can prestage a cash withdrawal amount up to 3,000 yuan ($483) simply by selecting the "Pai Pai Cash" icon on the bank's mobile banking application.
Customers can complete their transactions at any of the bank's ATMs by scanning a 2D barcode on the ATM screen with their mobile phone. The entire process takes about 20 seconds, the release said. The Bank of Ningbo mobile banking app is available for both iOS and Android smartphones.
No consumer data is stored on the device or contained within the on-screen 2D barcode, NCR said. Scanning the barcode merely identifies the location of the ATM and prompts fulfillment of the transaction. The solution requires no additional ATM hardware, and can be deployed with just a simple software upgrade, the company said.
Using back-end monitoring software from NCR, the bank found that transaction volumes via "Pai Pai Cash" were increasing daily, the release said.
"With the growth of mobile finance in China, cardless cash withdrawal has become a key service offering to increase consumer convenience," said Gary Miao, president of financial services for NCR Greater China. "More and more banks are introducing various methods of cardless cash withdrawal to create unique customer experience. NCR is proud to work with Bank of Ningbo to be the first in bringing 2D barcode cardless cash withdrawal to consumers."
