Navy Federal Credit Union adds remote key

January 3, 2006

MATTHEWS, N.C. - Navy Federal Credit Union, the largest credit union in the world, has installed the remote key option on the A98 ATM Initial Key Establishment System from Trusted Security Solutions Inc. According to a news release, NFCU also added a direct interface to its Connex ATM driving software from eFunds, which permits the use of RSA cryptography for the distribution of ATM master keys.

The credit union is expected to use the new technology to roll out Triple DES to the ATMs on its network that have not reached compliance.

"This is an important milestone for our credit union in particular, because we have ATMs all over the world," said Jeff Rath, NFCU's information security manager. "With remote key loading, when the technician sets the ATM to Triple DES, our system sends down a unique Triple DES key automatically."
