LONDON - ATM operator Moneybox has signed a contract to provide cash machine services to DB Station & Service AG, a subsidiary company of Deutsche Bahn AG. The contract enables Moneybox to install ATMs at German train stations.
Deutsche Bahn operates more than 5,400 stations across Germany, according to a news release. All the major stations offer restaurant and retail facilities to local commuters and visitors.
Moneybox, which currently has an estate of around 250 machines in Germany, will coordinate installation of ATMs at sites already identified as having a strong need for a machine. Other major Moneybox contracts in Germany include service station operator Tank und Rast and petrol retailer Total.
"This contract represents a major step forward for our operations in Germany. It is significant not only in terms of revenue but also in terms of the increase to the size of the Moneybox estate," said Paul Stanley, Moneybox chief executive. "Our experience from other markets has demonstrated that the installation of ATM machines at train station locations is an important step in building a profitable business."
British award
Moneybox also was recently voted Best Service Provider by UK convenience retailers, winning out over nine over service providers for the award, which was presented at the Harris International Marketing annual Convenience Shopper Tracking Program (CTP) awards dinner. Some 2,000 retail executives, representing 40 retail groups, participated in the voting.
According to the news release, CTP is a well-known industry reference for retailers, suppliers, service providers and distributors involved in the UK convenience sector; it quantitatively and qualitatively measures shopper attitudes, influences and usage patterns across the sector.
"We have worked hard to build a good understanding of the convenience store sector and developed specific service models that suit the dynamics of this important retail environment," Stanley said. "I am delighted that individual retailers have chosen to recognize our efforts in this way."
Tom Fender, managing director for Harris International Marketing said that ATMs were highlighted as being one of the most desired convenience store services by customers in this year's CTP survey.
"ATMs are now a vital service that customers expect to see in convenience stores, and site hosts are realizing ATMs are a real means of driving profit through increased frequency of visits to store and increased spend on site," Fender said.
