Mercator report reveals most consumers prefer credit cards

January 3, 2019

Mercator Advisory Group recently discovered that 62 percent of U.S. households use credit cards and 46 percent prefer using them for in-store payments, according to Mercator's report "U.S. Consumers and Credit: Rising Usage." Gen Z, however, still supports using cash and does not support credit card usage as much as older generations.

The report also found that 33 percent of customers prefer using debit cards and 18 percent prefer using cash. In addition, customers using credit cards are more likely to pay their monthly balance in full, according to the report.
