MasterCard this week announced that all of its credit, debit, prepaid and small business cards issued in the U.S. will now be covered by Identity Theft Resolution assistance. The program provides help to cancel missing cards, alert credit reporting agencies, and search out stolen personal and confidential data should it end up online.
Additionally, the company is extending its zero liability policy in the U.S. to include all MasterCard PIN-based and ATM transactions, a news release said. This is in addition to coverage already provided on signature debit and credit transactions.
"Cardholder protection is a primary responsibility for payment networks,” Javelin Strategy and Research senior payments analyst Nick Holland said in the release. “It's a positive step that MasterCard is offering increased protections and peace of mind to its cardholders as the U.S. market prepares for EMV."
