Loss of ATM maintenance contract to NCR means layoffs at IBM

September 7, 2016

IBM will lay off technical support services staff in the U.K. following the loss of the company's ATM maintenance contract with the Grupo Santander division Produban, according to a report by The Register, a U.K. publication.

The report did not specify the number of staff to be terminated, but said it was likely that more than 20 techs will lose their jobs due to the decision by Produban to send the business to NCR Corp.

In a memo obtained by the publication, an IBM manager outlined the fallout resulting from the loss of business:

The reduction of work load for our ATMs teams as a result of this loss has been considered and after extensive work from those in the ATM domain a plan has been set, individuals have been identified whose engagement in with IBM will be concluded on or around the 30th September.

The memo went on to say that despite the loss of the Produban maintenance contract, ATM technical support would remain a focus for IBM technical support services.
