Lloyds goes next-gen with 1200-ATM upgrade

April 17, 2014

Lloyds Banking Group has completed an upgrade of more than 1,200 ATMs in the U.K. New NCR SelfServ cash dispense and cash deposit units replaced legacy ATMs that had been used by Lloyds Bank, Halifax, Bank of Scotland and TSB for more than a decade.

The new ATMs feature 15-inch screens, voice guidance for visually impaired customers and two-sided thermal receipt printing, according to a news release from NCR Corp.

Notably, the changeover also marks the first installation of ATMs in the U.K. with contactless card reader capability, giving Lloyds the option to activate contactless service in the future.

The new ATMs are Windows 7 certified — an important feature following the discontinuation this month of Windows XP support from Microsoft. The deal also included NCR installation services and second line maintenance.

"Consumers are increasingly aware of the value that technology can provide when they bank with us and demand a compelling experience," said Gillian Sephton, head of ATM channel and branch security at Lloyds Banking Group. "We are delivering on the expectations of our customers through this ATM real estate upgrade. Moving to NCR SelfServ ATMs provides us with the flexibility we need as we invest in the future for our customers."
