JCB International Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of JCB Co. Ltd., has struck a license agreement to issue prepaid bankcards (i.e., "electronic travel checks") for use abroad by customers of the Chinese online travel agency Ctrip Financial Service (Hong Kong) Ltd., a subsidiary of Ctrip.com International Ltd.
Ctrip operates websites and apps that provide online reservation services for travel-related products such as airline and railway tickets and hotels in more than 200 countries, according to a press release.
The reloadable prepaid card can be funded with foreign currencies for use at JCB acceptance locations outside of China. More than 120 million Chinese travel abroad each year for purposes of leisure, business and study.
"I am delighted to have a partnership with Ctrip, the largest online travel agency in China, to issue prepaid card," said JCBI Vice President Kimihisa Imada. "The number of Chinese travellers is expected to grow rapidly and I am confident that this prepaid card will satisfy the demand of such people. This partnership [is a] great opportunity for JCBI to add more value on our product lineup and widen our target range."
