Japanese nonbank installs ATMs in 400 retail sites

TOKYO -- According to Kyodo News International, Daiei Inc. will deploy ATMs in about 400 retail outlets in the Tokyo metropolitan area.

Daiei, a finance company, is the first private nonbank corporation in Japan allowing banks to expand their ATM networks without spending money to install their own machines.

Daiei plans to increase the number of outlets to some 1,300 and expects to link to the postal savings ATM network.
