Has cash ever saved the day for you? Tell your story

The ATM Industry Association is collecting real-life stories to use in the production of its upcoming 'Cash Always Works' video. Share yours by Dec. 15.

The ATM Industry Association has launched a campaign to collect members' real-life stories about times when they needed cash. According to a news release, the association will use selected true stories in the production of its upcoming video about the role of cash in the world.

"Why do most people carry cash even in this day of Apple Pay, NFC, mobile wallets and ubiquitous plastic? Probably because they never know when they're going to need it! Technology fails all too often, but cash always works," said ATMIA President Tom Harper, who is also president of Networld Media Group, the publisher of ATM Marketplace.

Globally, cash is still used in 85 percent of all retail payment transactions, the release said.

But more than popularity and ubiquity, cash provides peace of mind that comes from knowing one has the means to make purchases — even during a natural disaster or other emergency.

"It's a universal truth that cash is the only payment which always works at all times everywhere on earth," said ATMIA CEO Mike Lee. "That's not surprising, as cash is the most successful form of money of all time."

ATMIA is inviting members to submit their stories about cash in one or two paragraphs. The association will use selected authentic material in the production of "Cash Always Works" — the third in a series of programs that includes the previously released videos "Cash Lives" and "Cash Connects."

"The only criterion for a submission is that you tell us a true story about cash," Lee said. Story submissions will be accepted through Dec. 15.

In addition to being featured in the "Cash Always Works" video, the best stories will be showcased at the 2015 ATMIA US conference and expo, Feb. 17–19 at Caesars Palace Las Vegas.
