The ATM Industry Association has published "Maximizing ATM Accessibility," a guide to enabling greater access to ATMs for users with disabilities of all types.
The new guide expands on previous publications such as "Recommendations on ATM User Interface" and "ATM Biometric Security Best Practices" as it addresses new methods for ensuring access to all.
"The study estimates that that approximately one person in five of the global population is disabled," ATMIA CEO Mike Lee said in the release. "As we discuss the shape of next generation ATMs, we should include new conversations about the kind of advice offered in this text, building on successes already achieved by vendors and deployers in the field of increasing accessibility at ATMs."
The guide suggests ways to accommodate ATM users whose impairments could include mobility, dexterity, vision, cognition, reaching and stretching, touch and hearing.
Lee said that the guide also includes case studies intended "to inspire our members, especially in the light of new technological capacities and regulatory developments."
Theonline guideis available to all ATMIA members.
