Gore intros new adhesive vent for outdoor electronics enclosures

July 16, 2013

W. L. Gore & Assoc., the company that gave us Gore-Tex, has expanded its line of protective vents. The new Series VE9 Adhesive Vent is designed to increase the reliability of outdoor electronic enclosures that are exposed to changing weather and environmental conditions.

gore ventThe adhesive vent allows the design of outdoor electronic enclosures with standard seals and gaskets rather than more costly ruggedized seals and gaskets. This provides both cost savings and longer life for outdoor electronic enclosures.

Integrating the Series VE9 Adhesive Vent into an enclosure is simple, according to a Gore announcement. Durable adhesive and all ePTFE construction provides for mounting on either the interior or exterior of the housing, depending on protection rating needs.

Combined with Gore UL-listed ePTFE membrane, the Series VE9 Adhesive Vent provides a typical airflow of 1150 ml/min/cm2. This allows for fast equalization of pressure caused by sudden temperature changes, while still meeting industry standards.

The Vent is robust enough to withstand water, dust, dirt, rain, and other harmful liquids which often cause problems for non-vented outdoor enclosures, Gore said.
