Florida man gets $1800 surprise

May 29, 2012

Following up a news item last week:

Daniel Lacesa drove away from the ATM a week ago under the impression that his $1800 cash deposit reposed safely in the bank's automated deposit terminal.

But the Boynton Beach, Fla., attorney was in for a surprise. His money never made it into the ATM. And then he was in for a bigger surprise, said a report by the CBS news affiliate in Boynton Beach.

He got his money back.

The next person to use the ATM, Adriana Alen, a school-crossing guard, found the money and turned it over to the police. Working with the bank, police were able to trace the deposit to Lacesa, the report said.

"I believe in God and I was brought up that whatever you don't earn is not yours," Alen said of her Good Samaritanism.

To honor Alen's actions, said a post on Lacesa's Facebook page, "a donation was made to Chabad of Stuart sponsoring a summer Hebrew camp in Adrians [sic] name."
