PADERBORN, Germany — Five Russian journalists survived a deadly terrorist attack at a Moscow Airport as they were waiting to fly to Wincor World 2011.
The journalists were in the departure area Monday when a bomb exploded in the arrivals and baggage claim area of Domodedovo Airport. The explosion killed 35 people and wounded more than 100, many critically.
Irina Timoshenko, marketing manager for Wincor Nixdorf LLC in Moscow, said all flights were postponed for six hours.
Originally, seven Russian journalists were scheduled to attend Wincor World, Wincor Nixdorf AG’s annual trade show and conference. After the explosion, two decided to remain in Russia. Domodedovo is the busiest airport serving Russia's capital. It is 25 miles from the center of Moscow.
Wincor Nixdorf holds a dinner for journalists who attend the conference, which began Tuesday and ends today.
Before the meal was served, Andreas Bruck, Wincor Nixdorf’s vice president of Corporate Communications, praised the Russian journalists for their courage in deciding to attend the conference.
