First United pilots ATM fingerprint technology

May 11, 2010

In a move aimed at preventing ATM fraud, Delaware-based Hawk Systems has a U.S. process patent pending for fingerprint authentication technology.

According to Finextra, the patent covers "using scanning five layers deep in the epidermal layer of the finger to authenticate a financial institution customer and permit an ATM transaction."

Hawk announced its software will be installed at six First United ATMs, and, if the pilot is successful, the bank's entire fleet will upgrade to the fingerprint authentication system.
