OMAHA, Neb. -- Over 745 million debit card transactions were processed by First Data Corporation's card services division in 1998 -- a 55 percent increase in the number of debit transactions it handled from the previous year.
The growth is attributable to several factors including the growth of First Data's existing debit card issuing partners and the overall industry growth in debit card transaction volume.
In 1998, First Data signed new debit card processing agreements with SunTrust, BankBoston and The Bank of New York, bringing the total number of off-line debit card accounts served to a record 32 million.
