First Data expands presence in Eastern Europe, Holland

LONDON - First Data Corp., an international provider of electronic commerce and payment services, has agreed to acquire EuroProcessing International, a leading card processor in Central and Eastern Europe.

The deal will give First Data an important foothold in Eastern Europe and the Nordic region, according to a June 10 news release. The announcement came a day after First Data Corp. announced that it had signed an agreement with International Card Services, a leading Dutch card issuer and acquirer, to launch an alliance for merchant and ATM acquiring in the Dutch market.

EuroProcessing International has offices or representatives in Slovakia, Lithuania, Latvia, Serbia and Montenegro, Russia and Hungary, with more than 330 employees and headquarters in Norway. The company is active in 10 central and Eastern European countries.

EuroProcessing International supports issuer and acquirer processing services, including ATM and POS transaction processing and electronic top-up of prepaid mobile airtime through POS, ATM and GSM messages.

ICS has relationships with over 90,000 merchants in the Netherlands for the acceptance of Visa cards.
