First Data appoints senior VP, head of investor relations

DENVER - First Data Corp. has named Silvio Tavares its senior vice president and head of investor relations.
According to a news release, Alex Holmes, First Data's director of investor relations, will continue in his role until Tavares' transition is complete.
Before joining First Data, Tavares worked with Washington-based Corporate Executive Board Co., where he served as senior director and practice manager for the investor relations roundtable and senior director for the executive board. Tavares also led London-based ABN AMRO Hoare Govett's U.K. Technology Banking team and was associated with Shearman & Sterling's corporate securities law practice in London.
"Alex has played a pivotal role at First Data during a period in which we dramatically transformed our profile with the investment community with the spin-off of Western Union," said chairman and chief executive Ric Duques. "We are also delighted that Silvio Tavares is joining the company, bringing an especially rich background to First Data."
Tavares holds a law degree from Boston University Law School, an MBA from Boston College and a B.S. in electrical engineering from Tufts University. He also is a member of the New York Bar.
