Father vandalized ATM over baby bonus

The (Australian) Courier Mail: The father of a newborn child damaged an ATM because it would not allow the withdrawal of his taxpayer-funded baby bonus, a court was told yesterday.

The Ipswich Magistrate's Court was told Christopher Wayne Mattey repeatedly kicked and punched an ATM and a waste bin at West Ipswich on the morning of February 19. The court was told Ipswich City Council's Safe City cameras, which are monitored 24 hours a day, first recorded Mattey trying to withdraw cash from a Rediteller ATM about 9:02 a.m.

Prosecutor Chris Barnes said Mattey, 34, stood at the machine for a short period of time before he started kicking it.
