The European ATM Security Team has joined with the Latin American Association of Operators Electronic Funds Transfer and Information Services to combat cross-border payment crime. This includes payment card fraud, ATM cyber and physical attacks, and other high-tech crimes, according to a press release.
The two groups first engaged when ATEFI presented at the EAST Financial Crime and Security Forum in 2013. EAST reciprocated by presenting at last year's Latin American Forum on Security in Payment Systems.
In a statement, EAST Executive Director Lachlan Gunn said that the two organizations have agreed to mutual associate membership. This will allow EAST and ATEFI to exchange strategic data and other nonoperational information in the fight against global threats.
"EAST is pleased to increase its global reach through cooperation with ATEFI, creating a greater network for combating the threats of payment crime," Gunn said. "Our National Members, representing 34 countries with a total of over 1.3 million ATMs, welcome this official working relationship with ATEFI and recognize it is of great strategic importance in battling cross border issues."
