Euronet subsidiary in top-up deal with UK Safeway stores

April 10, 2003

LEAWOOD, Kan. and LONDON -- Euronet Worldwide's (Nasdaq:EEFT) subsidiary e-pay has launched electronic top-up services, a payment method that enables consumers to add prepaid minuted to mobile phone accounts, in all Safeway supermarket stores in the UK.

This is the first major deal announced since Euronet acquired e-pay in February. (See related story Euronet expands prepaid business with acquisition of UK processor)

According to a news release, more than 480 Safeway outlets will use the e-pay service at point-of-sale terminals in the checkout lanes.

The proprietary platform used by e-pay features a switching engine offering billing, customer service, trouble reporting, credit management, settlement and reconciliation.

"With this agreement, e-pay now provides top-up services to four out of the five leading supermarket chains (in the UK)," said Paul Althasen, Euronet executive vice president and co-managing director e-pay.
